A stem cell laboratory has been established in the University of Debrecen`s Medical and Health Science Centre.
The researchers of the Department of Biochemistry and the Institute of Molecular Biology carry out tests which will encourage the use of stem cells in medicine. With the assistance of one of their most advanced instrument the researchers are able to find up to 18 different characteristics. The instrument cost more than 100 million HUF. They study the embryonic stem cells in the laboratory and the experts say that the usage of these means a major breakthrough in medicine, for example, in treating different eye problems, diabetes or spinal damages. The stem-cell research center was established at the cost of 700 million HUF, mostly with EU funding.
