From Thursday afternoon, significant snowfall is expected mainly in the counties of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Hajdú-Bihar, the Magyar Közút will carry out the necessary snow removal and de-skid work in the affected areas, but drivers are asked to pay extra attention, as the vast majority of motorists have already replaced the winter tires with summer ones.
Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt. wrote in its statement on Wednesday that, based on the latest forecast models of the National Meteorological Service, on the first day of the spring school break, from Thursday afternoon, in the plain areas of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Hajdú-Bihar counties, more than 5 centimeters will fall. fresh snow can fall, and even twice as much can fall in the Zemplén Mountains. In addition, the snow may extend into Friday.
They also announced that, based on the forecasts, the machines that can be used during winter work have been put back into the “line of battle” in the affected areas, so that in the coming days, they will continuously carry out the necessary snow removal and de-skid work in 12-hour shifts.
The road manager especially drew the attention of motorists to drive even more cautiously and with more caution than usual in the counties affected by the snowfall, since most of them have already switched to summer tires, the grip of which is completely different in winter weather conditions.
That’s why it’s worth keeping a greater following distance than usual and moderating their speed, they added.
