In second place in his age group at the European Triathlon Championships in Valencia, he is the head of the Division of Biomathematics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Debrecen: Zoltán Varga won a silver medal in the Olympic race.

The elite and age group amateur competitions of the European Championships were held in Valencia, Spain last weekend. The biomathematician of the University of Debrecen finished the prestigious international competition with outstanding results. In his age group, in the 50-54 age group, he won a silver medal in the Olympic distance, consisting of 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running with a time of 02:06:56.

This season, the betting tournaments did not go as well as I would have liked due to form timing, but I remained optimistic. Luckily the race venue was ideal, I swam in a pleasant 25 degree sea, the bike track was relatively flat and technical, I didn’t even have to climb heights when running. I was hoping I could finish in the top ten. Competitors were started every three seconds in the same age group, so when it came to the finish line it was not possible to know who was in how many places, so the final game became exciting. I got the right advantage with cycling, my time was the best, but it was tight on my hair as it was only a few seconds among the top four riders. I’ve had a lot of races in the past, but it worked out one of the best. An international competition is always more prestigious, it is a great success to reach the second place in such a highly listed field

– Zoltán Varga, the head of the biomathematics department, told hirek.unideb.hu.
